New Me'shell Album

Not sure who's heard the new album from Meshell Ndegeocello, but if you haven't yet, I strongly recommend it. It's called Spirit Music Jamia: Dance of the Infidel. I just picked it up, and I'm absolutely in awe of it. Chris Dave, Gene Lake, and Jack Dejohnette all play on it (Jack is on one song, Gene is on 2, and Chris Dave is on the rest with the exception of one song). Kenny Garrett, Wallace Roney, and Meshell herself all play on this, and it's an absolutely stunning body of work. Definetely pick it up if you dig Meshell's stuff, as I feel this is her best material yet.

Yep--got it--mentioned this on another thread. It's amazing work. I love Gene Lake's work on this in particular.

Not quite as amazing as this group live, though--just saw them in Oakland at Yoshi's and Chris Dave blew my mind. (MeShell and the other players as well--it's a great band.) He's pretty relaxed on this album but he was like a hurricane on the kit...a new drum hero for me!! I've never seen anyone play with his particular combination of fluidity, confidence, experimentalism and aggressiveness. Also featured in Modern Drummer this month--the guy's only 27 and he's already got quite a track record.

Yeah man, yeah, I caught that MD story and found it to be excellent. Also mentions an upcoming clinic tour of Chris Dave, Teddy Campbell, and Aaron Spears (!!!). Yeah, that will be some sickness right there. I also love Gene Lake's work on the album (ESPECIALLY on track #2, "Al-Falaq 113"). But Chris Dave just blows my mind on this and on everything he plays, really. Whether it be with Meshell, Mint Condition, or whoever. All amazing playing, and I can totally imagine how he plays this stuff live! Unreal. A new drum hero for me as well.

I just read about the new Me'shell CD. I will pick it up. Chris "Daddy" Dave is a BAD MAN!!! I met him at Winter NAMM 2005. He's a great guy!!! Very, very humble.

Hi Guys,

I'm a big Meshell fan and I can understant that she wants to change of style, but for me and until now, Meshell means her two first album.
I don't find this last one very consistant...
But anyway, some great cats on it.

matchgrip, my man, i really wish i had more info on that clinic tour. here's the direct quote from the article.

"As if all that weren't enough, watch out for a Sabian/Remo clinic tour featuring Dave, Usher's Aaron Spears, and American Idol's Teddy Campbell."

I also did a search for this, and also came up with nothing. But hopefully more info will surface soon as I'd surely make a road trip out of seeing that.
